2018 Legislative District Party Canvass
of the 8th House of Delegates District
of the Republican Party of Virginia
As Chairman of the 8th House of Delegates District Committee of the Republican Party, and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Gene Rose, do hereby issue this call for a Legislative District Party Canvass to be held at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church 2505 Electric Rd, Roanoke, VA 24018, Glenvar Middle School 4549 Malus Dr, Salem, VA 24153, The Salem Civic Center Room A, 1001 Roanoke Blvd, Salem, VA 24153, Meadowbrook Public Library 267 Alleghany Spring Rd, Shawsville, VA 24162, and New Castle Town Hall 339 Market St, New Castle, VA 24127 from 5 PM to 8 PM local time on August 14, 2018 for the purposes of: (a) nominating a Republican candidate for the office of Delegate to be voted for in the Special election on November 6, 2018.
Qualifications for Participation
All legal and qualified voters of the 8th House of Delegates District under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required, their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election, may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions or primaries encompassing their respective election districts.
In addition to the foregoing, to be in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, unless otherwise stipulated by the appropriate Official Committee, a person otherwise qualified hereunder shall not have participated in Virginia in the nomination process of a party other than the Republican Party with in the last five years.
A single exception to this shall be approved for a voter that renounces affiliation with any other party in writing, and who expresses in writing that he/she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends, at the time of this writing, to support the nominees of the Republican Party in the future. Any voter that utilizes the forgoing exception, and thereafter participates in the nomination process of a party other than the Republican Party, shall not have the benefit of the exception thereafter.
Candidates for the Republican nomination at said canvass shall file a $700 fee made out to the Roanoke County Republican Committee and submit the official filing form (found along with this call at http://virginia.gop/events/category/official-call/) by Mail (POSTMARKS WILL NOT GOVERN) or in person, to Devon Slovensky at Slovensky Law LLP 10 Church Ave. SE, Suite 103 Roanoke, Virginia 24011, which must be received not later than 12 pm NOON on Thursday, August 9, 2018. Mrs. Slovensky can be reached at 540-523-1122. If only one candidate properly files, then said candidate shall be declared the Republican nominee and no canvass will be held.
There will be no registration fee to participate as a voter in this canvass.
